To Do Tuesday #24 from The Quilt Yarn

My list from last week was small and included:

- finish off the ditching around my little baby quilt pattern, then do a little bit of ruler work and hopefully make a start on the binding.✅
- finish off hand stitching the binding on my panel baby quilt and if weather allows to take some photos- partially done!
- drop off all the charity quilts and pick up some new quilts to finish off
- continue plugging away at knitting the sock.

Three out of four things completed...very happy with that!

My little baby quilt went much faster than I expected as it ...

Big Star with NO Matching Points! Twinkle with NEW Kits! from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

Twinkle is one of my favorite patterns in my best-selling book Fat Quarter Workshop. It is a large scale block that features two colliding stars.

The design of the block makes it great for fabric collections that have a lot of low volume neutrals that don’t offer a lot of value contrast with the background. We use them in the center of the block and the darker fabrics as the star points to clearly define the block and all all the fabrics to shine.

The original fabric in the book quilt is long gone, but we thought Festive Fauna ...

New Pattern Coming Up from The Quilt Yarn

This is going to be my new pattern...a quilt that you can literally construct in a day! While it looks simple it does require being able to work with partial seams, so hopefully I will be able to get my diagrams right so that people can follow this. Otherwise it is obviously super simple and quick to come together. It reminds me of the colourful wooden blocks that the kids used to play with.

I do seem to like bright colours...did not think twice about putting all those bright screaming colours together. Maybe because the last quilt I ...

Half-square triangle tutorial and giveaway winner

Make 8 units at a time with this easy half-square triangle tutorial. Use this formula to figure out the size of the beginning squares. No guesswork!

In a few weeks, I will release a new quilt pattern that features a pieced block (above) and a block with piecing and applique’. Today I will show you how I’ve been making lots of half-square triangles (HST) shown in my recent patterns and published quilts. When I have to create many units at a time, I have a few options.

Half-square triangle methods

1. The traditional method has you cutting squares of ...

Gumball Quilt Pattern & Making a Freezer Paper Template from Pipersgirls's Weblog

gumball quilt

This is our Gumball Quilt, and while one of the most simple quilts I have made in both technique and fabrics, it is one of my all time favorites. To me it screams happy, joyful and warm summer days! It is just wonderful for a baby quilt, for a little one to use outside on the lawn or as a stunning wall decor. The finished size is 38″ X 45″. This quilt was very popular in kits for our shop, but as it is now retired I thought we would share it as a FREE pattern with you.
